UK BUYING GUIDE

Value Fast IPS Gaming Monitors

What a Fast IPS gaming monitor is, why 1ms IPS replaced TN for gaming, what to pay, and how GAMEO's four A+ Grade IPS monitors (165Hz–200Hz, Full HD to 4K) compare on verified specifications and UK prices.

THE SHORT ANSWER

A 'Fast IPS' gaming monitor is an IPS panel tuned for a 1ms response time, giving the motion clarity once reserved for TN panels while keeping IPS colour and 178°-class viewing angles. Good value means getting that 1ms IPS panel with 165Hz or more, Adaptive Sync and a proper stand for around £100–£200. GAMEO's four monitors all use A+ Grade IPS panels with 1ms response, from £98.50.

What 'Fast IPS' actually means

IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels were historically slower than TN panels, with 4–6ms response times that caused visible smearing in fast games. Fast IPS panels use revised liquid-crystal formulations and stronger overdrive to reach 1ms response figures, closing that gap. The quoted 1ms is usually an MPRT (moving picture response time) figure measured with the panel's motion-blur reduction active; it is a manufacturer specification, not an independent test.

The practical result: you no longer have to choose between colour accuracy and speed. That is why GAMEO builds every monitor on an IPS panel rather than offering TN or VA alternatives.

What good value looks like

  • A+ Grade panel (minimal dead-pixel tolerance) — GAMEO states this for every model.
  • 165Hz or higher, 1ms MPRT, Adaptive Sync/FreeSync and HDR support.
  • Colour: 100% sRGB (or close) and 8-bit + FRC for 1.07 billion colours.
  • Both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs.
  • Metal, height-adjustable stand with tilt, swivel and pivot, plus 100 × 100mm VESA.
  • A 12-month warranty from a company you can contact in the UK.

COMMON QUESTIONS

FAQ

Is Fast IPS better than VA for gaming?

For most gamers, yes: Fast IPS gives 1ms response with accurate colour and wide viewing angles. VA has deeper blacks but more smearing in dark scenes.

Does 1ms IPS mean the same as 1ms TN?

Both are manufacturer figures. IPS 1ms figures are usually MPRT with motion-blur reduction; TN quoted GtG. Treat 1ms as a tier rather than a precise measurement, and set overdrive to the middle setting.

What is an A+ Grade IPS panel?

A panel grade with the tightest dead-pixel and uniformity tolerance offered by the panel maker. GAMEO specifies A+ Grade panels on every model.

What are my rights if the panel has dead pixels?

UK consumers keep their statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 whatever a warranty says: goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. GAMEO adds a 30-day replacement for manufacturing defects and a 12-month service warranty, with a 14-day cooling-off period for change of mind.
